Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin was reportedly informed that he had tested positive for coronavirus at the 30th National Gala of the Ireland Funds in Washington, D.C. President Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi, the House Speaker, attended the event, during which the president gave a speech.
Biden stated that he was looking forward to continuing his friendship and discussing their partnership the next day at the White House. According to a White House official, Biden did not have “close contact” or interact with Martin. “Close contact” refers to when a person spends more than 15 minutes with someone who has tested positive for the virus.
Martin, also known as the Taoiseach from Ireland, visited Washington, D.C. for an Irish celebration to mark St. Patrick's Day, which included a visit at the White House.
If Martin becomes infected, the event could be canceled or held virtually.
