“The USCP is tracking an aircraft that poses a probable threat to the Capitol Complex,” stated the first announcement, sending Twitter into a frenzy. After a few minutes, when the Capitol was evacuated, Capitol police stated that there was “no threat” and the evacuation was due only to “an abundance of caution.”
The exact cause of the alarm has yet to be determined; however, indications suggest the incident was caused by a U.S. military aircraft that had been flying near the Capitol.
