Czech Railways said the accident occurred at around 6:00 am in Bohumin, just after the Pendolino train bound for Prague departed.
A bullet train driver was fatally injured, as were 4 Czech Railways employees on the engine and one employee on the train sustained injuries. It is unclear if the engine was in motion during the head-on collision.
Rescuers reported that there were no injuries to passengers.
The Rail Safety Inspection Office, an organization that investigates accidents involving trains, stated that the high speed train may have been operating on the wrong track, and the incident could be the result of human error.
