The polls closed and not much later the Irishman, Robert Francis (Beto) O'Rourke, was declared the loser in the Texas governor's race.
Democrats spent over 75 million dollars on the state's governorship race. However, with only 44 percent of the votes recorded, the race was declared for Abbott. At that point, Abbott was up by nearly nine points, with 53.7 to 45 percent.
The Dallas Morning News reported on Monday, “Since July 1, 2021, Abbott has raised $83.6 million and O’Rourke $77.3 million.”
In 2018, O'Rourke invested $80 million in order to be defeated in the U.S. Senate race in Texas by Republican Ted Cruz.
Then in 2020, O'Rourke wasted $13 million to lose the Democrat primary for the presidential race.
O'Rourke's campaign has spent $170 million and lost three elections.
O'Rourke isn't the only one Democrats have thrown away tens of millions of dollars for in 2022. For instance, in Florida, Democrats threw away $70 million on Val Demmings. The race is already declared for Republican Marco Rubio. With 88 percent of the vote counted, Demmings was 16.3 points behind Rubio (57.6 and 41.3 percent).
Democrats also spent $15 million to beat first-term Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor-Greene (R-GA). In spite of Democrats even going as far to file a lawsuit to block her name from the election ballot, her race was immediately called against Marcus Flowers.
So far, the total is 162 million (give and take) that Democrats squandered on lost causes in 2022. This doesn't include the $105 million that candidate for governor Stacey Abrams (D-GA) spent in her failed rematch with Republican Governor Brian Kemp. Based on the polls, the race looks like another blowout.
