Disney holds Emergency Town Hall to Appease LGBTQ Employees, Vows to Fight Texas Transgender Measure

In Monday's meeting, Disney CEO Bob Chapek repeated his apology for his initial silence regarding the Florida's Parental Rights in Education Bill, and said the company would be more active in LGBTQ protests, such as opposing Texas Governor Gregg Abbott's (R) recent decision on transgender child sexuality procedures.

“I and the leadership team are determined to use this moment as a catalyst for more meaningful and lasting change,” Chapek declared at the beginning session, as per the report in The Wall Street Journal.

Disney has also announced that it will establish an internally-created LGBTQ task force to work with LGBTQ employees, as well as community partners and content creators.

In the course of the meeting, Chapek said to employees that he was mistaken in not first openly opposing the Florida bill that would stop the teaching of transgender and sexuality ideas to children in kindergarten to third grade. Chapek said he was aware of the hurt that the initial silence about the bill caused its employees.

Democrats have attacked the bill to be the “Don't Say Gay” bill even though the text doesn't refer to “gay.” Despite a flurry of negative coverage in the media, however, the Florida Senate has recently passed the bill, opening the way for Governor Ron DeSantis (R) to take it up as law.

DeSantis has criticized Disney for reversing their initial refusal to speak out against Florida's bill.

“When you have companies that have made a fortune off being family-friendly and catering to families and young kids, they should understand that parents of young kids do not want this injected into their kid's kindergarten classroom,” he said.

In the town hall on Monday, Chapek agreed that the company needs to stand up to support the LGBTQ community, which extends beyond Florida, as per the report by Deadline.

In Texas, Governor Abbott has requested state agencies to look into parents of children going through transgender procedures, which includes irreversible hormone therapy. The state's appeals court issued an interim injunction to stop the governor's proposal.

Disney is now preparing to aggressively fight Abbott's plan as part of its dedication to LGBTQ activism.

The town hall meeting held on Monday was held as a substitute for an executive retreat planned for the coming week. According to Breitbart, Disney employees are organizing several walkouts in order to force executives to support its controversial LGBT agenda.

The walkouts have been taking place despite Chapek's apology. “You needed me to be a stronger ally in the fight for equal rights and I let you down. I am sorry,” Chapek wrote in a memo that was sent earlier in the month.
