According to a News story, 27-year-old illegal immigrant Gerson Fuentes was detained and indicted this month for assaulting a girl, who became pregnant. The case was mentioned by President Biden following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade because the girl was taken to have an abortion on June 30th when she was 6 weeks pregnant.
Following his arrest and the abortion procedure, Franklin County prosecutors ordered DNA tests to be conducted on the child who had been aborted to determine if the man who was arrested was actually the father. On Thursday, Prosecutor Dan Meyer said these tests proved that Fuentes had raped and impregnated the girl.
The result was that Fuentes was not granted bail and will remain in jail until trial. This week Fuentes pleaded not-guilty.
The mother of the girl, who is said to be pregnant with Fuentes’ child, has been adamant about the man’s innocence against allegations of rape by her daughter. In an interview with Telemundo, the girl's mom stated that “everything that they're saying against him is a lie.”
Fuentes has been allowed to reside in the US for at least seven years and has worked in a cafe, despite his status as an illegal alien. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency has told News that they had not previously come across Fuentes until his arrest in connection with being accused of raping the girl.
ICE agents have put an order to detain him, in order to ensure that if he's removed out of local detention at any point and is released, he will be handed into their care for detention and deportation.
