When speaking to the Financial Times this past Friday, Hillary Clinton gave a somewhat uninformed response when asked how she feels Democrats should be focusing on transgender issues.
“Democrats seem to go to great lengths to lose elections by promoting activists' causes, particularly the transgender issue, which is of interest to a small minority. What is the logic to paint JK Rowling as an extremist?” the reporter asked.
Hillary Clinton said that winning the next election was too important to lose focus on important concerns.
“We are standing on the precipice of losing our democracy and everything that everybody else cares about then goes out the window,” Clinton declared. “Look first, the main issue is winning this election. The alternative is so scary that anything that doesn't assist you in winning shouldn't be your top important consideration.”
As reported by Fox News, Clinton's caution against extreme left-wing politics comes after remarks she made in the latter part of 2021, when she urged Democrats to really think about which matters actually help win elections.
“I think that it is time for some careful thinking about what wins elections, and not just in deep-blue districts where a Democrat, or so-called progressive Democrat, is going to win,” Clinton. “I know why people like to defend their positions. This is what they believe they were elected to do.”
“Look I'm all for engaging in a lively debate. I believe it's a good thing as it gives everyone the chance to be an active participant in the process” she said. “But, at the end of the day, it means nothing if we don't have a Congress that will get things done and we don't have a White House that we can count on to be sane and sober and stable and productive.”
Hillary Clinton is hardly the only well-known Democrat to advise against campaigning on a platform that is based on radicalism. Last year, Republican Glenn Youngkin handily won the Virginia governor's race because of, what Democratic strategy director James Carville called, “stupid wokeness.”
“[W]hat went wrong is just stupid wokeness,” Carville said. “Don't just stare at Virginia and New Jersey. Look at Long Island, look at Buffalo, look at Minneapolis, even look at Seattle, Wash. I'm talking about this ‘defunding the police’ lunacy. The removal of Abraham Lincoln's name from schools. I'm talking about the fact that people can see it.”
“It's actually — can have a negative effect across the nation on Democrats. Certain of these people have to be taken to a “woke detox center or some such thing,” Carville continued. “They're expressing a language that people just don't use, and there's backlash and frustration at that.”
Carville's comments provoked fierce criticism from extreme leftist Democrats such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) who said that Democrats who believe in the concept of a “woke problem” will hurt their chances of reelection since they “rely on the racial justice issue of voting rights.”
“One dangerous aspect of thinking there's a ‘woke problem' is that Dem chances for re-election or majorities in House, Senate, & WH rely on the racial justice issue of voting rights,” she tweeted. “Dems distancing from racial justice makes protection of voting rights less likely, ensuring losses.”
