Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Paul Gosar (R-AZ) received committee assignments in the new Republican-controlled House after both were kicked off committees by the Democrats in 2021.

On Tuesday, the 30-member House Republican Steering Committee, composed of House leadership and elected regional representatives, picked Greene to be a member of the Homeland Security Committee and Oversight Committee. In addition, Gosar was selected to serve on the House Natural Resources and Oversight Committees, according to various reports.

While the recommendations from the Steering Committee are typically approved, they will still have to be approved by the entire House Republican Conference.

The Oversight Committee, chaired by Rep. James Comer (R-KY), and the Homeland Security Committee, chaired by Rep. Mark Green (R-TN), are likely to conduct multiple investigations. Furthermore, Greene has already called to impeach Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas over his poor border management.

This is the first time that Greene and Gosar will have been on committees since 2021.

The Hill stated that Greene had been stripped of her assignments in February 2021, just a month after she was sworn in, as a result of her previous comments and alleged acceptance of conspiracy theories, which she later denounced, as well as “social media interactions encouraging violence against Democratic officials.”

Gosar was removed from his duties in November 2021 after tweeting an anime video that “depicted him swinging swords at President Biden and killing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).” He voluntarily removed the video and said he doesn't “espouse violence against anyone.”

In November 2021, then-Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) pledged to reinstate the two representatives to committees in the event that the Republicans took the House majority during the midterm elections, which they did.

Then, in January 2022, McCarthy told Breitbart News's Matthew Boyle, which he confirmed last week in conversations with reporters, that he would strip Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA), Eric Swalwell (D-CA), and Ilhan Omar (D-MN) of their respective committee positions in the 118th Congress.

McCarthy indicated that this would be because of Schiff taking advantage of his position as the chairman of the Intelligence Committee to perpetrate the Russia fraud, Swalwell because of a lengthy romance with a woman that the intelligence community identified as a Chinese spy named Fang Fang, and Omar for making numerous antisemitic remarks and downplaying the attacks by Al Qaeda terrorists on September 11, 2001.
