A source confirmed to Axios a report that President Joe Biden and senior government officials are considering not going through with the current plan to stop Title 42's use on May 23– a decision that they admit could result in influxes of illegal immigrants in such numbers not previously seen in American history.
Axios reported that the White House is looking for methods to prevent a huge number of immigrants that could increase the already historic number of border crossings putting at risk Democratic candidates in the states that will determine the Senate majority next November. The most vulnerable Democrats are openly and publicly declaring a potential political catastrophe in the midterm elections. They're asking the White House not to give Republicans the opportunity to paint Democrats with the image of the “open border party.”
“The politics are pretty simple,” Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) told Axios. “The Republicans are going to hit Democrats with those videos of people streaming into the United States.”
The idea of delaying the end of Title 42 comes as two delegations from Congress travel towards the southern border this week. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) is in charge of an army of congressmen heading for the border between California and Mexico. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is on his way to the border between Texas and Mexico this week, along with a few Republicans.
It is expected that the Republican delegations are scheduled to have a meeting with the National Border Patrol Union in addition to officials from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas Army National Guard.
The GOP lawmakers want to highlight the coming wave of illegal immigration, which experts say will overwhelm not just federal immigration officials but the American communities that Biden intends to utilize as dump areas in Biden's catch and release program.
In the absence of Title 42, Biden officials acknowledge that they anticipate as many as a half million border crossings and illegal immigrants–roughly equivalent to the inhabitants of Atlanta, Georgia–to cross the border each month.
Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) recently spoke to Breitbart News in an exclusive interview, claiming that he expects 30,000 border crossers and illegal immigrants every day at the border.
In the past, President Biden has released an unheard number of border crossers into American communities. From January 2021 through the end of February in 2022, Biden released over 756,000 border crossers into the U.S. interior. On March 20, 2022, Biden let more than 80,000 border crossers into the U.S.–a number of foreigners larger than the population of his home town of Scranton, Pennsylvania.
