When the debate started, Abrams repeatedly proclaimed that she accepted the results of the election in 2018 for Brian Kemp even though she had repeatedly stated that the vote was fraudulent.
When Georgia adopted their voter integrity legislation in 2021, President Joe Biden and Stacey Abrams called it “Jim Crow 2.0,” however, as Kemp correctly noted during the debate, the number of black voters in Georgia has been steadily increasing since the law's adoption.
“In 2018, during the governor's race, we saw the highest African American turnout in the nation. She stated she believed that Senate Bill 202, our recently passed election integrity law which we adopted two years ago, could be a stifling measure in nature and it would be Jim Crow 2.0. This past May, during our primaries, we had record numbers of people voting in the Republican primary as well as the Democrat primary. In Georgia it's simple to vote, and difficult to cheat.” The candidate said.
Kemp also slammed Stacey Abrams for her Black Lives Matter extreme views, ranging from her support for Defunding the Police to the removal of cash bail.
“I support safety and justice,” he stated. “No sheriffs are endorsing her statewide because of her stances on wanting to Defund the Police, eliminate cash bail, and serving on the boards of organizations like the Margurite Casey Foundation that supports and gives grants to organizations that are promoting the Defund the Police movement.”
Brian Kemp made waves during the lockdowns of 2020, when he was one of the states that was the first to allow business to resume at the time Stacey Abrams said there was “no legitimate reason” for her state to lift the virus restrictions.
“There's no reason to justify reopening the state, except for political reasons, and I believe it's disingenuous to claim otherwise,” she said at the time.
“We're not ready to return to normal,” she said. “We have people who are the most vulnerable and the least resilient being put on the front lines, contracting a disease that they cannot get treatment for.”
Kemp has taken Abrams to task over her previous pro-lockdown policies which would have harmed Georgia's economy.
