Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) expressed his gratitude to President Joe Biden for halting the construction of the border wall along the US-Mexico border during the North American Leaders’ Summit (NALS) on Tuesday.
In addition to Biden and Canada's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, AMLO was awed by Biden's swift halt to border-wall construction on the U.S. southern border. On the day after assuming his post, Biden signed an executive order that ended any wall construction that was in the plans under former President Donald Trump.
“You, President Biden, you are the first president of the United States in a very long time that has not built, not even one meter, of wall,” AMLO declared in his remarks during the Summit. “In that, we thank you for that sir. Although some might not like it, although the conservatives don’t like it.”
The Biden administration has decided to leave widespread holes in the border wall, which renders it useless when it comes to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents trying to limit illegal immigration into the United States.
Instead, the Biden administration has used previously allocated border-wall funds for “environmental remediation” projects, even as 2.6 million border crossers and illegal immigrants are predicted to be apprehended this year.
While denying the advantages of a border wall in order to stop illegal immigrants from entering the U.S., Biden is spending just under half a million dollars of taxpayer money to construct an enclosure around his vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
