Marcy Landolfo, who owns the Rains PDX store in the Democrat-run Portland, Oregon, is frustrated after having a break-in number 15.
Landolfo explained to KATU that she was able to stop the operation because “The products that are being targeted are the very expensive winter products and I just felt like the minute I get those in the store they're going to get stolen,” the outlet reported on Saturday.
She's also worried about the safety of her employees and admitted, “The problem is, as small companies, we are unable to sustain those kinds of losses and remain in the game. I'm not even going to go into the details of the amount that is owed to employees.”
A notice posted on the front of the store said that the shop was closed for good and advised customers to visit the site instead.
The notice also informed the customers:
“Our city is at risk. Small-scale businesses (and large ones) can't continue to operate in the present state of our city. There is no protection or recourse to the crime that is not punished. Don't fall for the trap of believing that insurance companies are able to take care of damages. We've been through 15 burglaries. We haven't received any financial compensation since the 3rd of April.”
“Do your part to help small businesses during the Christmas season and throughout the year. Make sure you are vigilant when voting to ensure that our city is safe again.”
After the shop was hit by an intruder this month, KATU contacted Mayor Ted Wheeler (D) and other officials. They told them they were looking to boost funding for grants to repair business.
In the response, Landolfo said, “Paying for glass, that's great, but that is so surface and does nothing for the root cause of the problem, so it's never going to change.”
Portland could also lose its famous ice cream stand, Salt & Straw as its owner, Kim Malek, recently stated that the city is experiencing an increase in drug and crime levels, as well as street camping, making business difficult.
Malek declared that the company's goal is to “be on the table with the county and the city to come up with a solution and not to leave. Portland is a part of the heart of our business.”
Additionally, Breitbart News reported November 16 that there was increasing evidence that America has become ever “criminogenic” since mid 2020 and “this trend toward more crime has accelerated since the start of 2021.”
However, in September, the White House tried to downplay Biden's (D) responsibility regarding the wave of crime, saying that the issue was “complicated,” according to the publication.
