This week, Governor Greg Abbott (R) declared that he would begin sending undocumented immigrants who have landed in Texas to Washington, D.C. In the last 24 hours, the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) has dispatched an unspecified number of buses to Texas communities, after the Biden Administration has sent a massive number of migrants to Texas. The TDEM claims it can send as many trucks and buses as is necessary to meet the demands of county judges and mayors.
Seth Christensen, chief of media and communications for TDEM, claimed that the vast majority of the areas in the state impacted by illegal immigrants residing in their communities are claiming that migrants were dropped off in their towns following Abbott's announcement. “From Terrell County to the Rio Grande Valley, a vast majority of the communities that requested assistance through this operation have stated that federal officials have not removed migrants from their community following the announcement made by the governor on Wednesday.”
Christensen claimed that each bus is equipped with the “capacity to transport up [to] 40 migrants.”
Governor Abbott announced Tuesday that his state will transport people to the US Capitol, with the expectation that the Biden Administration can meet the immediate issues of the migrants whom they have admitted into the United States. To follow Abbott's instructions, Christensen said that his agency would employ “as many buses as necessary.”
