Trans Cyclists finish 1st and 2nd in UK Race

Emily Bridges and Lilly Chant both finished second and first competing in the ThunderCrit's “Lightning” category. According the website the category is reserved to “cis-women, non-binary people,” and “trans men and women whose physical performance aligns most closely with cis-women.”

21-year-old Bridges has tried unsuccessfully to gain entry into cycling events for women across the UK in the last few months. Breitbart's Hannah Bleau reported in March that Bridges was denied access to the National Omnium Championships.

Bridges has been through hormone therapy, but, as is evident by the power of UPenn transgender athlete Lia Thomas, hormone therapy is not enough in eliminating the inherent physical advantages men enjoy over women.

Bridges has also won races against males while being treated with hormones. In the month of March, British Cycling still listed Bridges as a male most likely due to the fact that Bridges is, in fact, a male.
