Trump Says Declassification Can Happen Without a Process

The former president Donald Trump said Wednesday on FNC's “Hannity” that a president of the United States can declassify any documents without having to go through a formal process.

Hannity stated, “A president has the power to declassify.”

    Trump declared, “Correct.”

Hannity declared, “You have said on Truth Social, a number of times, you did declassify.”

Trump declared, “I did declassify yes.”

Hannity was asked, “What was your process to declassify?”

Trump said, “There doesn't have to be a procedure according to what I've read. You see, different people say different things. According to my understanding, there is no need to be. If you're president of the United States, you can declassify by simply saying, “It's been classified.” You can even think about it. Because you're making it available to Mar-a-Lago or wherever you're sending it. There isn't a need for any procedure. It is possible to have some process, but it does not have to be. You are the president. You decide. When you transmit the information, it's classified. I've declassified everything.”

He also said “I would say that there's a very good chance that a lot of those documents will never be seen again.”

Trump said, “They spied on my campaign and why did they get involved and take this action? Particularly since we were having such wonderful conversations.”
